The Mobius Centre Story

Mobius Centre

Lost, found, come home. That for me is the beginning of the Mobius Centre story.  This story starts with a very personal journey and it was only recently that the above came to light and I realized how personal this journey has been for us. I was talking with my wife Sarah reflecting about our time together.

She said that before we met she felt ‘lost’; she then went on to describe that because of our synchronistic meeting and our connection she had been ‘found’. The ‘coming home’ piece I will also explain later.

I remember in our early dialogues she talked to me about a place called Heir Island, which is off the southwest coast of West Cork in Ireland. The island, which at it’s most, is one and a half miles from east to west and one mile from north to south and very few people lived there. Then, over the next few times we met, photographs of the island were shown to me.

I was born and brought up in east London and although I was fortunate enough to have a forest close by, where many joyful hours were spent playing, making dens and running, the closest I got to be near water on a regular basis, besides the bath, was the small boating pool, for model boats at the local park.

My ‘dreaming place’ had to be the place of the famous five and secret seven stories, and the adventures on the rocks and small coves that could be had.

Later that year in June, after a short small open boat ride from the mainland, I placed my first foot on the island . I felt as if I had arrived in a peaceful place, a natural place, and a magical place. An ideal place for time out and reflection.

On the second night of our stay, I took a short walk to the beach sitting below the traditional Heir Island cottage where we were staying. Something very peculiar happened to me. Something I had not experienced before or experienced since.

I had for many years wanted to have a building in a special place where people would come and be in dialogue with each other. Where they could explore their possibility, explore what it is that had been ‘holding’ them back, and explore how to ‘step’ into their future.

As I stood just above the beach, gazing out to the silvery sea shimmering with the escaping rays of sunlight through the clouds, I looked back at the cottage, and to it’s right for a fleeting moment, I saw a roofline. I was startled, and yet, did not think too much about it.

In 2013, I gaze back from that same beach and the roofline is actually there. You see, it’s important to dare to dream, and to dare to make those dreams come true.
